Our aim is to reinterpret the existing construction and environment by utilising its potential, removing disadvantages and introducing new values that complement the found objects. While doing so we strive for a result that is open in every sense of the word.
Existing vegetation is strong, so we shall keep, protect and expand the garden. Most of the existing buildings are valuable and transformable, so we keep the main pavilions. The connecting elements that are blocking connections are removed and replaced by a new central space that invites and aids interactions both from the outside and internally.
After examining the former school our conclusion was that we should not increase the footprint of built volumes. This led to two decisions. First we decided to build the extensions necessary to include the program as new levels on top of the existing school buildings. Then the only new element apart from these areas was the new hall replacing the previous connection of the school pavilions.
